Let's Get Creative for Walking-It 2020


Would you be interested in creating a travelling rock to accompany me, Nicola, on my Walking-It 2020 challenge? This fundraiser challenge will aid of Taff Rocks run workshops where there currently are none. Yes? Then read on!

Create a travelling rock to accompany me and any other walkers on the Walking-It 2020 sponsored walk and be in with a chance of winning this pack of 12 acrylic paint pens that you can use to create more works of rock art! Plus a coveted Taff Rocks badge!

Here's how to enter and some rules: 
  • Enter in one of the following categories (One rock will be chosen from each category. One rock will start and finish, two rocks will be shared along the journey):
    • Category 1 - Under 8 years old
    • Category 2 - 9 - 15 years 
    • Category 3 - 16+ (including adults) 
  • The rock must include some form of image showing travel / mode of transport related image. 
    • Some examples:
      • A traveling duck (very popular)
      • Suitcases
      • Planes, trains and automobiles 
      • Feet
      • There's many more ideas, get creative!
  • The rock cannot be any larger than 8cm around at its biggest. The flatter the better as I will be carrying all of them! So try not to have them too heavy for me.
  • It must include the share and re-hide statement for Taff Rocks
  • Your finished rock, or rocks, must also include the hashtag #walkingit2020 
  • Entry rocks must be dropped off at any Taff Rocks Tuesday workshop. For details of these, click here - First Tuesday every month. 6pm—8pm in St John Ambulance Hall, Nixonville, Merthyr Vale 
  • To ensure we can contact you, should you win, please:
    • Take a picture of you, with your rock, and keep it on your phone. 
    • Do not send it to me, Taff Rocks or anyone. 
      • If you need to, you can show me after the winners have been decided. Then you can either delete the photo from your phone, share it in our Facebook group or do whatever you'd usually do with your photos.
    • Place your rock in a paper bag / envelope 
    • Add your name and age category inside the envelope or bag
  • Postal entries welcome, please message for details. 
    • International friends of Taff Rocks can also enter but please allow time for postage.
  • You, or a friend / family member, must be a member of the Taff Rocks Facebook Group or Like the Facebook Page or attend any Taff Rocks community workshops 
  • Closing date and time is 6.15pm on the 2nd June 2020
  • Winning rocks will be announced on the Taff Rocks website after 9pm the same date
    • You will need to contact us if you have won!
  • Prize giving or postage of prizes will not take place until after the sponsored event is complete. And the walkers have had a day or so to rest up. 
  • I will do my best to present your prize to you in person, with your parent / carer / guardian's (if applicable) permission
    • I would like to take a photo of me giving you your winnings and share it on social media
    • I will agree to hide your face if you prefer.
    • No child's face will be shown at all! 
    • If there are 'issues' surrounding this, please speak to me, I can be very flexible. I'm also pretty good at hiding faces and people (or adjusting my images so the other person cannot be identified), on my social media posts, if they can't or don't want to have them shared. I never share them without permission anyway.
These pens have been donated by me at no cost to Taff Rocks and no funds have or will be taken out of the sponsorship funds to pay for them.

    • No walkers are permitted to collect / solicit sponsorship funds on the day.

February Fill-Ditch

My Grandfather was very correct when he said 'February Fill-Ditch' ... It has done nothing by rain! 

However, I am working out at home and also spent some time with my awesome coach at the gym today.

Training is hard right now due to the weather, but I guess I'm going to have to suck it up and just get on with it - and fast!

I'm on track though peeps.  

Feeling someone what rough tonight though, I have a terrible sore throat. I think I've lost my voice too

Feeling awesome

Today was worrying me.

I had a visit with my awesome coach and I knew she was up-ing the anti. My mind is pretty much on track, my body, not so much, even after and during the training for my sponsored walk / challenge this summer. 

Having gone through some PT and changing my nutrition, for the better, I thought she was trying to kill me! 

Now, well, not so much because my body didn't suffer as much as I thought it would, my diet is changing ... where I get to eat more ... and my mindfulness is on a roll! 

I'm on the up hill road to amazingness you know ❤

What a manic start to the month!

So, the last time I saw my coach, who helps me help myself with my mindfulness, she also offered to help with my motivation and this challenge! Of course, I'd be an idiot to say no. She's such a positive influence.

Anyway, I ended up reaching the goal of five miles, but it wasn't every day! This stupid adulting thing is getting in the way! But it's getting easier for sure.

Feeling the motivation

I saw my coach yesterday. It was the first time this year. Every time I see her, I come away feeling totally enthused.

Walked longer today, don't know if it was 5 miles and I'm not going to beat myself up over it I don't think, that's not helping!

Getting there - but not fast enough

This is taking me a lot longer than I thought! I need to be at 5 miles every day and the end of the month is looming! That's when I start working toward the 10 miles a day!!!!!
