About

Hi, my name is Nicola. I have challenged myself to undertake a 35-mile plus sponsored walk.

I am doing this to raise funds for a small community non-profit organisation that is very close to my heart - Taff Rocks.

Their mission is:
"To enhance people’s lives and community cohesion through fun, inspiration, creativity and self-expression. By providing workshop experiences, we can establish meaningful connections between generations, art therapy and share love and smiles, one rock at a time." - Taff Rocks
They rely on grant-aid and fundraisers, such as this.

Before I continue, I know there will be some of you out there who know me, that will be reading this thinking "What?", "Is she for real?", or even "She's never going to do that!"

Well, I didn't think I'd complete the Welsh Three Peaks Challenge all those years ago either, and if it wasn't a challenge, I'd be misleading you! By making it easy, I'd feel like I'd be defrauding you of any hard earned cash you'd be thinking of sponsoring me for!

To cut a long story short ... I'm doing it to the best of my ability!

Here's the 'deal':

On the 20th June 2020, I will (hopefully with company) be walking to raise funds for Taff Rocks.

I also need to be realistic here and state that this sponsored walk may not be completed until the 21st June

I'm going to be sticking to the roads, for safety and for others to join in if they wish.

The starting point will be at the Taff Rocks Trading Post at The Owl's Nest Tea Room Diner in Llandovery and ending at the other Taff Rocks Trading Post at St John Ambulance Hall in Nixonville, Merthyr Vale.

The route, yet to be confirmed once road support is in place, can be found here.

So far, the route is as follows:
  • Starting at the Owl's Nest, Lower Road, Llandovery
  • Along the A40 to Sennybridge
  • Follow the A4215 heading for the A470
  • Along the A470, making a pit stop at "Terry's" burger van (for a cuppa) north of the Storey Arms
  • Leave the A470 and follow the A4050 to Cefn-Coed
  • Follow Cefn Coed High Street and leave at The Drover's Arms headed for Cefn Viaduct
  • Stay on the Taff Trail passing Merthyr Tydfil
  • Along Ash Road, Troedyrhiw
  • Leave the Taff Trail at Ynys-y-gored Farm, Aberfan
  • Follow the path in front of Orchard Close, Aberfan
  • Through Ynysowen Fach, Aberfan
  • Across the footbridge over the road (listed as Bronheulog Terrace on SatNav)
  • Pass the primary school
  • Leave the road to walk along river bank behind Hughes Forrest
  • Off there at the front of St Mary's Church
  • The straight to the Trading Post at St John's Ambulance Hall
